A few anoying bugs do not take away from this games brilliance.
Let me start out by saying that Baldurs gate is a brilliant game that truly stands the test of time thanks to its solid gameplay and marvelous storytelling.
This is a dialogue-heavy game with an emphasis on exploration and sub quests. Without thoroughly exploring you will not get as much out of the game as possible, plus it could start to get too difficult without a full, well leveled and well equipped, party. The game definitely has a higher initial difficulty curve than most RPGs, because of its complex AD&D gameplay system. But, if you put in the time to learn the system, it will truly better the experience. Its DEFINITELY not for everybody. Action junkies need not apply.
The "Enhanced Edition" plays smother than any previous version ive played and the updated interface is a plus (its basically Baldurs Gate 2 Interface integrated into BG1) but it really isnt all that different from before. This isnt a remake, thats for sure. Ive had no problems with crashed but there are some bugs. The ones Ive come across are more annoying than anything. For example, my archers, keep rushing into the middle of battle when I want them to keep their distance. I constantly have to pause and back them off so they dont get ripped to shreds. Another example is that my mouse scroller sometimes works as it should, such as when browsing a merchants wares, and other times not at all, like when trying to scroll on item/weapon/spell descriptions. These are things that could easily be fixed so I just hope they do so soon.
All in all, I recommend this game to fans of swords and sorcery, fantasy novels aficionados and people with patience and an open mind. Baldurs gate really is in a class all on its own. They dont make them like this anymore.
