Crashin’ like it’s 1998
After the extended delay is releasing this game, I really hoped the basics would be in working order. Looks great, is fun while it lasts. But crashing during cut scenes? Thats a 1998 experience I don’t look for or like to pay for in 2014. How will I know when what update fixes that? I shouldn’t have to QA this product that I paid for. And I don’t want to play it if I have to keep redoing things or save every 10 seconds.
Other than that, it’s a great port. Guess I’ll sit around and wait till users confirm it’s mostly fixed (again). I’m not very picky, but it’s just not fun. It’s not like I paid for early access to a cutting edge game, this is a (extensive) port of a 15-year-old game.
I still suspect delays blamed on other things were really because they found these bugs way too late and have been constantly trying to patch it. As an old school gamer/ hacker (and former CTO), I’ve seen it all before.
How refreshing if they would just declare the obvious facts up front and mention the reality. Again, this is not a cutting-edge game. The people who want it are willing to help and support.
If you are young and considering this game because of it’s legacy, I’d reconsider. If you loved the old PC version, it’s a surprisingly impressive (and certainly enhanced) edition. …between crashes.
