GUI issues

Great game remade proving wishes do come true. However, the lack of right click is causing me a lot of issues. Command + Click doesnt bring up item details with a 99% fault and Items are glitchy and erratic I click on an arrow and get a ring, ect. Also I believe I am suffering from the perpetual up date issue. I would like an update to address these bugs. Overall it is an awesome idea and I support this, would just love some bug fixes.

Flaws

Does not support RIGHT-CLICK (or command-click) on all features of the game where its supposed to. I have an Intel Mac Mini with a Logitech wireless mouse and 10.6.8. So its impossible to use scrolls, get more information about items, and a bunch of other things where RIGHT-CLICK is supposed to work. For example: in the inventory window, I click on an item to get a description of the item, but all that it does is select the item out of the slot. So I spent $20 for a game that is severely hobbled. I played Baldurs Gate years ago on my antique Mac and I loved it. So Im hoping the developers can fix this or tell me if Im doing something wrong.

Updates!?

Seems like every day I am downloading a new update to this game. I havent had a chance to play too much of it yet, but is anyone else seeing improvements or being asked to update constantly?

Doesn

Ive never written a bad review. I thoroughly enjoyed the versions of this game on other platforms. This version did not fit my screen correctly, had no graphics options. If youre not a BG purist, dont buy it. Very disappointed.

One of the Greatest

One of the greatest games of all time, and that they were able to bring it to the Mac is just plain swesome. Cant wait for BG2 to be updated so I can carry my awesome party from BG1 on to greater heights. Save for a few minor glitches, I havent had a single problem with the Mac version. Love it!

A few anoying bugs do not take away from this games brilliance.

Let me start out by saying that Baldurs gate is a brilliant game that truly stands the test of time thanks to its solid gameplay and marvelous storytelling. This is a dialogue-heavy game with an emphasis on exploration and sub quests. Without thoroughly exploring you will not get as much out of the game as possible, plus it could start to get too difficult without a full, well leveled and well equipped, party. The game definitely has a higher initial difficulty curve than most RPGs, because of its complex AD&D gameplay system. But, if you put in the time to learn the system, it will truly better the experience. Its DEFINITELY not for everybody. Action junkies need not apply. The "Enhanced Edition" plays smother than any previous version ive played and the updated interface is a plus (its basically Baldurs Gate 2 Interface integrated into BG1) but it really isnt all that different from before. This isnt a remake, thats for sure. Ive had no problems with crashed but there are some bugs. The ones Ive come across are more annoying than anything. For example, my archers, keep rushing into the middle of battle when I want them to keep their distance. I constantly have to pause and back them off so they dont get ripped to shreds. Another example is that my mouse scroller sometimes works as it should, such as when browsing a merchants wares, and other times not at all, like when trying to scroll on item/weapon/spell descriptions. These are things that could easily be fixed so I just hope they do so soon. All in all, I recommend this game to fans of swords and sorcery, fantasy novels aficionados and people with patience and an open mind. Baldurs gate really is in a class all on its own. They dont make them like this anymore.

Fantastic, but...

Great game, but there are some minor glitches with minor side quests. As in they are not completeable. The game runs perfectly, however, and I havent noticed any RIGHT-CLICK problems like the other reviewers. Definitely 100% worth $20.

Good but a little quirky

The game is very well done minus the quirky inventory screen. Items tend to jump and get selected/deslected, randomly exiting to to the "live" screen and such, appears to be "key bounce" when in these selection screens, and can be annoying when you erase spells from your spell book or sell or drop wanted items. The continuous "update" notification is annoying too. The game play rocks, but the above problems need to be corrected with an update, but I will never know because it is always says there is an update… Catch 22...

SIMPLY OUTSTANDING!

Great game then - great game now. Hopefully the developer doesnt stop here, theres still BG2 and the Icewind Dale series too! Im reminded how much I miss the games that make you think and read. Foreign concepts nowadays! An all-time classic! Enjoy!

Fantastic!

Great game that needed to be kept alive! Still has a few small bugs, but I expect those to be cleared up and they DO NOT lower the quality of the game. Keep the updates coming! Ill get my Hero/Villian ready for BG2! EDIT. the update message is false. no need to update. devs will fix soon im sure. and I have a naga mouse that right-clicks just fine. just for everyones info. still a great game that now has the potential to live on EDIT. this game should have been immediately added to the "great role-playing games" list/section. when BG2 is finished and added they will be essential.

one of my favorite games

Its great that they brought this classic back to life. One of the best RPGs ever.

worth the 20 dollars if you dont have the previous version

played baldurs gate 1 and 2 on ps2, this game is amazing on the mac! only encountered one glitch with the items, but it didnt hinder my gameplay. Ive see skyrims glitches so i know the worst of the worst lol. if you like rpgs BUY THIS GAME. Also, it says to update this game but from reading past reviews id rather not. Hint: put your difficulty setting to the lowest possible, this game is an OLD RPG and its meant to be a pain in the you know what when it comes down to difficulty. Be prepared to get involved in this motherlode cause man o man it is a fine game.

Game does not seem to work properly

I cannot seem to get through the tutorial, as the instructions are not particularly clear and do not function as they are supposed to. I seems to me that there should be a written tutorial on game functions. also there does not seem to be any quit function at least in the tutorial phase. This game played much better on a PC. So far not worth the money I spent.

I love this game!

The Baldurs gate games are the best party based RPG games I have ever played. I am excited for the matchmaking to come out so I can hop on and play this on a multiplayer platform. Worth every penny to download. This game brings me back to my youth. Thank you for remaking this game. I am super excited, and will defnitely get BG2 when it comes out. I am really looking forward to the BG3 that is supposed to come out! This is one of my favorite games of all time, and I am super happy that I get to play it now. Some of the complaints I see on here, like the one where the "archers are rushing in" are because the person playing doesnt realize that they need to change the NPCs script to "ranged combat." So that is on the player, not the game. I am having no issues at all with "right click" problems. Maybe it was updated before I downloaded, but I am playing in a Macbook air, and the right click is working just fine.

A True Gem.

Ive abandoned my recent re-foray into [edited: "a much newer, expansive RPG) for this game. The immerson and detail far outweigh the pretty graphics of the other game. I still dabble into that other game for things like the thrill of having to accurately aim a bow and getting a long distance shot, but this Baldurs Gate doesnt need it. It has arguably better strategy, a more compelling story-line, vastly more intersting combat (especially with your companions!), and somehow has this unnamable, over-arching allure. You might have to be a bit of an old-school roleplayer, and you have to get past the "outdated" graphics (especially the tight zoom - everything gets pixel-blurry! - but at least theres now a great zoom function!) There are a few bugs that need to be worked out, but this isnt the place to suggest bug fixes and so forth. And really, I cant remember any specific bugs off the top of my head - and that says *a lot*. I mean, think of that "other game" - it was full of bugs that I know wed all recall in an instant. This is a SURE PURCHASE if you know what youre getting into, and I recommend it to every gamer. A true gem.

Developers asleep at the wheel...

This Mac App Store version is a buggy mess. It updates itself ALL OF THE TIME, OVER AND OVER AGAIN @ 1.97GB, which is not only ANNOYING, but RIDICULOUS (and will hit my ISPs download cap at this rate as I keep falling for this bad joke and looking for overdue bug fixes). The ding-dong developers say it takes six days to update the App Store version, which is why they update their other versions "sooner", and leave this one to fester, but were not daft. Its been FOREVER, and this version STILL does not have a fix for this constant updating snafu or for the supposed fix from months ago where you cant get the Idenitfy scroll in the very first town. Stop blaming Apple or treating App Store buyers like SECOND CLASS CITIZENS and get off your duffs and do your job. It begs the question of what else did the devs fail to QA in this mess?! Yeah, very cute to spend $20 for an old classic like this, but if youre not going to do it right and leave people frustrated, even $.99 will feel like a rip-off waste of time! What gives?

Simply Awesome

The game play is outstanding (with the exception of a bug related to returning from the island of werewolves - where killing the right person doesnt cure the disease and your party tries to kill the main character). The graphics are great. Well done

Boy Do I Wish that I could Right-click!

I do love Baldurs Gate BUT I too have that same frustration with the inability to right click and look at items in the game. Will Somebody from Atari or WoC please fix this for mac users?!?!?!!! It is getting to be problematic!

Better than expected

Perfect! I didn’t want to download the game but now I don’t regret giving it a try. Despite its age, it is still very interesting game and enables you to feel phantasy atmosphere and give much thought to tactics.

Boring, and tedious.

This game always stood in the shadows of the far superior Diablo, and thought I would give it a try. Anyway, stay away from this snooze fest; Diablo is a real game, and so much fun, compared to BG. Save your money.
